iciHaiti - Social : The role of memories in the construction of the Haitian identity 30/09/2017 08:52:59 Titled "Memory of Slavery in Haiti. Intersection of memories and stakes of heritage" his thesis, which won this prize, highlights the role of multiple memories (prestigious memory, traumatic memory, guilty memory, memory of victimization, memory of claims and consensus memory) in construction elements of the Haitian identity that hesitates between a recognition or ignorance of the descendants of slaves and an appropriation of the offspring of a free man. It proposes that the heritage of the memories of slavery in today's Haitian society should accommodate the trauma of the suffering, the pride of having triumphed over this ignominy and the consequences of this past. Note that Jean Ronald Augustin conducted this thesis, directed by Laurier Turgeon, and supported it at Université Laval in Quebec, Canada, on November 20, 2015, as part of his PhD in Ethnology and Heritage. He will receive the CNMHE thesis award on October 17, 2017. IH/ iciHaiti
