Haiti - IRMA : The solar micro-grid ready for shock...

Haiti microgrid operator Sigora Haiti (3 microgrids: Môle-St-Nicolas, Jean Rabel, and Presqu’île) which serves more than 8,000 people in the Northwest, has taken measures to protect its facilities from the damage caused by the passage of hurricane IRMA which was expected to pass 100 km from the grid : high winds, flying debris, storm surges and floods...

Sigora teams have removed the solar panels from a recently installed 200 kW grid at Môle-St-Nicolas to protect them from flying debris. In addition, Sigora has stored water purification materials, medical kits and food at its offices in Jean Rabel and Mole-St-Nicolas for the local population. "We have an incredibly capable team that is trained in technical matters and safety concerns for preparing the population, taking precautions, and being ready to put things back together whatever happens," declared Drew Lebowitz, Vice President of Operations of Sigora Haiti, recalling that in October 2016 during the passage of Hurricane Matthew Sigora Haiti had been able to restore electricity to Mole-St-Nicolas in only 55 hours.
