iciHaiti - Politics : Creation of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) welcomes the adoption by the Chamber of Deputies of the Resolution on the official establishment of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Haiti (FPFH). This adoption makes Haiti the 18th country in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean and the first francophone country in the world, to have this associative structure of Parliamentarians engaged in the fight for food and nutritional security.

"The Parliamentary Front Against Hunger in Haiti (FPFH), which we have just created with FAO support, will serve as a more inclusive and integrated platform for discussion and reflection on key issues related to food and nutrition security and right to food in the country, with a view to allocating adequate resources Political : to the formulation and implementation of public policies and programs related to food and nutrition security, facilitating people's access to healthy and adequate food, and eradicating hunger and malnutrition in the country," declared the deputy Yves Dupras, Rapporteur of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Food Security

Dr. Nathanael Hishamunda, FAO Representative in Haiti, stressed that the role of the legislature in the fight against hunger is crucial, given its capacity in the formulation and adoption of laws and in the allocation of resources required for the implementation of agricultural policies, strategies and programs and of food and nutrition security in Haiti. While confirming the commitment of the United Nations to support the FPFH, he hoped that the Front could establish exchanges with other Fronts in the Region, including that of the Dominican Republic, with the aim of strengthening its capacities qnd to structure quickly.
