iciHaiti - Environment : 5 years of Ineffective fight against polystyrene and styrofoam products
Despite the decree of 10 July 2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8995-haiti-notice-ban-on-plastic-bags-and-styrofoam.html substituting that of August 9, 2012 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-6395-haiti-environment-measures-of-protection-for-the-environment.html on the prohibition to manufacture, import, market and use the products in plastic, in foamed polystyrenes and styrofoams (PES or crystal PS). Such as: plates, trays, cups, etc.) and the numerous seizures of goods imported and marketed illegally, the situation remains virtually unchanged and these products are still present on the Haitian market.

In view of this situation, the Ministries, the Environment, the Economy and Finance, Trade and Industry inform the public in general and the Trade sector in particular that it is formally prohibits the manufacture, import and market these products. This measure takes effect from 13 June 2017.

Arrangements will be made by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to facilitate the import of biodegradable inputs, containers, sachets and bags with fewer adverse effects on the environment. Formal instructions will be given to the police to take drastic measures against all offenders.
