iciHaiti - History : A Haitian laureate of the prestigious «Prix de Thèse 2017» 14/05/2017 09:30:05
Monday in Paris, as part of the National Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, the jury chose the Dr. in Ethnology and Heritage from Laval University (Québec, Canada), Jean Ronald Augustin of Haitian origin, as laureate of the prestigious "Prix de Thèse 2017" of the National Committee for the Memory and History of Slavery for his thesis defended in 2016 "Memory of slavery in Haiti. Crisscrossing of memories and challenges of heritage." The research work of Jean Ronald Augustin, a former student at the Master's Program in History, Memory and Heritage at the State University of Haiti (EAU), aimed, among other things, to "highlight the role of multiple memories in the construction of the elements of the Haitian identity which hesitates between a recognition or an ignorance of the descendants of slaves and an appropriation of the descendants of free men."
