iciHaiti - Security : Two dramas of the sea avoided
The US Coast Guard vessel "Legare" returned to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Thursday after a 35-day surveillance patrol (drugs and migrants) in the Caribbean Sea, specifically in the Windward Passage between Cuba and Hispaniola.

At the beginning of its patrol, the "Legare" provided assistance to 11 Haitians on a light sailing boat in trouble near the Turtle Island. A few days later, the US Coast Guard saw an overloaded sailboat trying to leave Haiti. Through a creole interpreter, the Legare crew intercepted and escorted the ship back to the Haitian port.

The "Legare" also hosted multiple officials from the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to introduce them to Coast Guard missions and Haitian migration trends.
