iciHaiti - Politics : ALBA-TCP reiterates its solidarity with Haiti
Foreign Ministers of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas - People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), at the Fifteenth Meeting of its Political Council in Havana in its final declaration, reaffirmed its solidarity with Haiti "[...] we reaffirm our solidarity with the Republic of Haiti to which we feel a debt of historical gratitude, and pledge ourselves to continue to promote our cooperation in accordance with the priorities identified by its Government and with full respect for its sovereignty."

Learn more about the ALBA :
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America or Alba is a political, economic and social organization created in 2004 by Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez in Havana. The objective of this alliance :compete with the US-led Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) project.

Inspired in particular by Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), a mythical figure of Venezuela and liberator of a large part of Latin America, this integration initiative for the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean has as main objective to fight against poverty and social exclusion.

The first cooperation agreement was signed on 14 December 2004 between Cuba and Venezuela, followed on 28 April 2005 by an action plan. ALBA now has nine more members : Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis.
