iciHaiti - Justice : Inauguration of the Civil Prison of Hinche
Monday, Camille Jr. Edouard, Minister of Justice and Public Security, inaugurated the new Civil Prison of Hinche with a capacity of 250 detainees.

Recall that the construction of the new prison of Hinche is a project of the Haitian State registered in the strategic plan of development 2007-2012 of the DAP which had the objective to endow the city of Hinche with a modern prison that responds more or less to international standards of detention.

Started in 2008 the project was stopped in 2010 due to the earthquake. The first phase, which cost nearly 17 million gourdes, was financed by the Treasury. The project was finally able to resume in 2016 thanks to the US Embassy that through the International Bureau for the fight against narcotics and law enforcement (INL) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), that funded the project to the tune of over 47 million gourdes.

The penitentiary center located on Rue de la Lumiere covers a total area of 2,329 m2, an administrative block with a dispensary and a training workshop; adetention block with some thirty cells for 8 detainees; a playground and a sanitary block.
