iciHaiti - Environment : EDH finally interested in renewable energy
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP-Haiti) is supporting the capacity building of technicians and specialists of the Electricity of Haiti (EDH), in collaboration with the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) and the energy unit of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPC) for a better master of good practices associated with the development of renewable energies.

During various training sessions related to renewable energies, the Government of Haiti and UNDP are working hand in hand to achieve Sustainable Development Goal #7 (SDO 7), which aims to guarantee access for all to reliable, sustainable and modern energy at an affordable cost.

Let's recall that the Renewable Energies Unit (ERC) of the EDH, supported by the UNDP and launched at the end of December 2016, aims to promote the production of renewable and economically viable electricity in Haiti (solar and wind power). In this context, UNDP has already identified six potential hydroelectric sites, which have been equipped with hydro-meteorological equipment to collect reliable data for possible exploitation.

Note that Haiti currently imports 80% of its primary resources (petroleum products) to produce its electricity.
