Haiti - Shows : The Martha Graham Dance Company in Haiti 19/01/2017 10:39:30 The Office of Public Affairs of the Embassy of the United States of America invites the general public and dance enthusiasts in particular to attend the following shows which will be presented free of charge: Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6 am to 8 pm at the Kiosque Occide Jeanty (Champs de Mars), with the students of the Joelle Donatien Belot Dance School. The musical group Boukman Experyans will also perform on this occasion. On Sunday 22 January 2017 from 6 am to 8 pm, the company will also perform in Jacmel at the Convention Center (by the sea) with the participation of Jacmel's "Grand Soleil" dance troupe. A workshop is also planned with the students of the dance section of the National School of Arts (ENARTS), on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 January 2017. Martha Graham Dance Company has been a pioneer in contemporary dance since 1926. Today, the company adopts a new programming vision that highlights Graham's masterpieces alongside newly produced works by contemporary artists. With shows that offer a rich thematic narrative, the company creates new platforms for contemporary dance and multiple access points for the public. Since its inception, the Martha Graham Dance Company has received international praise from more than 50 countries in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Russia and the Middle East. The Company has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, the Paris Opera, Covent Garden, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and in front of the Great Pyramids of Egypt and the Ancient Theater Herod Atticus on the Acropolis of Athens. In addition, the company has also produced several award-winning films broadcasted PBS and worldwide. This tour was undertaken at the initiative of the US Embassy in Haiti in coordination with the Haitian Ministry of Culture. This project is part of the exchange programs supported by the Office of Public Affairs of the United States Embassy and strengthens mutual understanding and historical and cultural ties between the American and Haitian peoples and encourages local cultural and tourism institutions.
