iciHaiti - Telecommunications : The CONATEL in Geneva
On Monday, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, personalities and senior executives from the public and private sectors around the world as part of the 110th anniversary celebration of the so-called "Radio Regulations" governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and telecommunications satellite orbits.

This Regulation guarantees the interference-free operation of radiocommunication systems. It provides equitable access for all countries to the spectrum of radio frequencies, a limited natural resource that does not know national boundaries and requires global harmonization.

As a Member of the ITU, Haiti is supporting this global event. Jean Marie Altéma, the Director General of the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL) seized the opportunity to reiterate the Council's commitment to work hand in hand with mobile operators and partners in the sector in order to connect everyone for a better future "Let us undertake this task in the same spirit of inventiveness and collaboration that inspired participants in the early work of ITU 110 years ago."

It should be recalled that the first International Radiotelegraph Conference in 1906 brought together, in Berlin, 30 States for the signing of the "International Radiotelegraph Convention", thus establishing the principle of the obligation of communication between ships at sea and between these ships and coast stations. These standards, which have since been supplemented and revised by numerous world radiocommunication conferences, are now known as the Radio Regulations.
