Haiti - Poetry : Joël Des Rosiers, winner of the Literary Prize Fetkann 2016

Thursday, the Literary Prize Fetkann! Maryse Condé 2016 poetry category, was awarded to the Haitian doctor, poet and essayist Joël Des Rosiers for his latest collection of poetry "Chaux" published in 2015 at Éditions Triptyque (Montréal).

His poetry, full of mysteries and sacrifices, is at the same time worked by extreme tensions that mingle strangely with an apparently clinical erudition in which the melancholy of the flesh is offered to mourning, religious and sensual ceremony.

Learn more about Joël Des Rosiers :

Born in Les Cayes in Haiti on October 26, 1951, he is the descendant of a signatory of the Independence Act. Joël Des Rosiers spent his teenage years in Canada when his family goes into exile. He went to study in Strasbourg where he became involved with the situationist movement in the early 1970s.

Doctor, poet and essayist, he traveled the world, especially a long journey to the Sahel, before publishing various collections of poems, including "Tribu", "Savanes" and an essay "Théories Caraïbes".
