iciHaiti - Telecom : The CONATEL sets up an emergency unit

In response to the post-Matthew damage and faced with the extent of the damage reported in the telecommunications sector in the departments of Grande Anse, Nippes and South, the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL) has established an emergency unit, composed of executives and technicians of the institution.

The creation of this unit is one of the first actions of Conatel to further involve the telecommunications sector in emergency operations. This unit is currently working on the development before the end of the year of a national emergency communication plan to be presented to the supervisory ministry (MTPTC).

Given the importance of radio stations in these times of emergency and given their situation of dysfunction, the unit has exceptionally associated with the network of amateur radio, to facilitate the radio-communication in severely affected regions.
