Thursday, several personalities attended the funeral sung in the church of Saint Anne of Port-au-Prince, of 6 inmates of the national penitentiary, died among other of contagious diseases due to unsanitary cells, lack of food or sleep... Burial took place at the cemetery of Port-au-Prince.
Since July 18 prisoners died in the penitentiary center because of poor conditions. Prison overcrowding (more than 5,000 inmates, less than 0.5 m2 per prisoner https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16234-haiti-social-hell-in-the-national-penitentiary.html ), lack of hygiene, food and health care are the main causes of death, regrets the Government Commissioner of Port-au-Prince, Jean Danton Léger which strongly criticizes the passivity of the authorities including that of Jocelerme Privert which seems to ignore the detainees in the country.
