Dominican military authorities and Haitian Human Rights activists note that to less than one month of elections in Haiti the illegal Haitian flows arriving in the Dominican Republic has increased...

Although the phenomenon is not new to the approach of elections in Haiti, the Dominican army and CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre) confirm that hundreds of Haitians without documents, were arrested after crossing the border in a wooded area in the "Aviación" community of Dajabon, with for the most part the city of Santiago as final destination.

Alfonso Paul Deguis, a Haitian Human Rights activist explains that to the approach of the elections, there is a lot of insecurity, people are afraid. Furthermore he emphasizes that his compatriots see no change in the foreseeable future to enable them to develop their economic and social environment. Having lost hope, unemployed and tormented by hunger, they prefer to try their luck in other countries in search of a better life, mainly in the Dominican Republic because of its proximity...
