iciHaiti - Religion : Protestant sector and the reconstruction of the National Palace
The Protestant Federation of Haiti (FPH) organized a fundraiser during the great ceremony of commemoration of bicentenary of Protestantism in Haiti. The funds collected through the National Commission of the Bicentennial Celebration of Protestantism in Haiti (CNCBPH), were made available to the Haitian State to initiate actions to rebuild the National Palace.

Thursday at the 200th anniversary celebration ceremony of the establishment of Protestantism in Haiti at National Palace, Pastor Sylvain Exantus, President of the FPH, took the opportunity to recall that the National Palace was the scene of first Protestant worship August 18, 1816 under the chairmanship of Alexandre Pétion. The official residence of the Head of the Haitian State therefore has historical significance for the Protestant sector.

The de facto President Jocelerme Privert, moved by this gesture, welcomed this patriotic decision of Protestant leaders and hoped that this day marks definitely the first step towards the reconstruction of this national heritage.

Learn more about the National Palace :
Built in 1918, the plans of Georges Baussan (1874-1958), leading Haitian architect, the National Palace was severely damaged during the earthquake of 12 January 2010 that caused the collapse of the cover of the first floor. It was finally destroyed in September 2012.
