iciHaiti - FLASH : Fire destroys the binational market of Dajabón
Friday at 8:00 p.m. a fire broke out in the border market of Dajabón. For over two hours the fire destroyed more than 40 stalls, small shops and warehouses of goods located along the southern part of the main building of the market, whose concrete structure and the steel shutters were also affected by fire on this side. The premises in the east and north in the market have not been affected.

The mayor Miguel Tatis deplored the material losses and of merchants and said it would open an investigation to determine the causes of the disaster, estimating losses and identify Haitian and Dominican merchants who have been affected. He thanked the mayors of other municipalities (Montecristi, El Pino, Party, Loma de Cabrera and others) for their assistance in equipment and men to fight the fire in addition to the participation of citizens of Dajabón.

Interviewed merchants who have lost everything, accusing the municipality of being responsible for much of the extent of the disaster, noting that in the market there are fire hydrants, but the pipes were not available on the market to fight the flames...

Although merchants are grouped together to try to save some of their goods, looting acts were recorded. The damage and loss of goods are considerable. However, no casualties have been reported.
