iciHaiti - Health : A preventable cancer that kills 1,500 Haitian women per year 03/12/2015 09:53:17
Wednesday morning to the hospital Saint Nicolas in Saint-Marc, the US Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti) in collaboration with "Zanmi Lasante" and the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), launched the project "Initiative of Cervical Cancer".
US Ambassador Peter Mulrean in his speech, stressed that cervical cancer, is one of the only completely preventable cancers. It can be successfully treated, in most cases, when taken in time.
Each year, approximately 3,000 Haitian women develop cervical cancer, of which approximately 50% will die. But doctors say that the improvement of diagnosis and treatment can have a significant positive impact in Haiti. The two-year pilot program aims to examine 20,000 women for cervical cancer and vaccinate about 6,000 girls against the human papilloma virus.
