iciHaiti - Economy : Increase in textile export quotas for Haiti 01/10/2015 12:03:08
The US Department of Commerce has established a new limit on imports duty-free of knit garments from Haiti under the HOPE act (Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Through Partnership Encouragement Act for). According to the terms of a limit is set on the amount of duty-free garments, which can be exported to the United States from Haiti each year.
Because imports under the "Total Preference Level" (TPL) exceeded the threshold of 52 million m2 SME (Square metre equivalents) during the month of July 2015, the level of the applicable annual quota for 2014/2015 period from 1 October to September 30th has been automatically increased to 200 million m2.
The level of new annual quotas for the period from 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2016, will be 70 million m2, as imports reach or exceed 52 million m2.
