The Haitian government required of the Dominican authorities, a report indicating the adequate sanitary conditions, before the lifting of the ban on entry of fruits and vegetables in Haiti, following the presence of the medfly (Mediterranean fruit fly), detected in the East of the Republic Dominiciane, particularly in the area of Punta Cana.
"The Dominican Republic must prove that their sanitary conditions are good. Then, the Haitian authorities will go on site to authenticate the report and check if everything is correct. And finally, lift the ban, if necessary," said Pierre Guito Laurore, Director General f the section of Plant Protection, Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development.
