iciHaiti - Health : A surgical first in Haiti
On Monday, the First Lady Sophia Martelly and the Minister of Health, Dr. Florence Guillaume, visited the Siamese babies who shared a liver and which were separated last Friday at the University Hospital of Mirebalais (HUM). This delicate surgical operation led by Dr. Henry Ford, a Haitian doctor and university professor, living in the United States, which was carried out with the team at the HUM, particularly composed of Dr. Marlon and of Dr. Jerry Bitar, is a first in Haiti.

"The babies are doing well! I congratulate the medical team of the HUM who managed this delicate operation to separate the Siamese babies born last November. Hats off to the entire team of the University Hospital of Mirebalais, their partners here and overseas who have managed this great challenge ! It is a shared success, the result of effective collaboration between the Haitian institutions and HUM partners," declared Sophia Martelly before Manoucheca Ketant, the mother of two babies, radiant with happiness.

After Mirebalais, accompanied by the Minister Guillaume, the First Lady visited the Community Reference Hospital of Bon-Repos "Pa gen fè bak nan batay pou amelyore kondisyon lavi moun, se pa yon batay politik, se yon chwa sitwayen !" wished to emphasize Sophia Martelly.
