Haiti - News : Some news here and there... 08/11/2014 13:25:43 Ms. Emilie Jessy Menos, Secretary of State for Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC), participates in the 19th edition of the annual conference of business in Bahamas from 6 to 9 November 2014. In addition to this 19th conference, the Secretary of State has had fruitful meetings with personalities from the Caribbean business, notably with Ambassador Andrew Young, Congressman (former US Ambassador to the United Nations and former Mayor of Atlanta), Paula Williams Madison (former Vice President of Universal NBC and General Electric) currently CEO of Madison Media Management and Harrison Thompson, Permanent Secretary of Tourism in the Bahamas. Note that the 20th Conference will be held in Haiti in 2015. Did you know ? According to experts of the MacArthur Foundation, Haiti has substantial water resources estimated at about 56.2 billion cubic meters of water. However, the amount of water available for irrigation decreases significantly due to the rapid and excessive deforestation and the lack of effective management of available resources. Donation of 100 First-aid Kits to Haitian Fire Department This Sturday morning, the United States Government has donated 100 first-aid kits to the Haitian Fire Department in order to strengthen the capacity to respond in an emergency. The ceremony was held at the PNH Police Headquarters and was presided over by Major General Dabadie of the Louisiana National Guard. Funding for the kits came from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs to enhance emergency preparedness. International Day of inmates at the prison of Petion-ville Sunday, November 9, the Directorate of Prison Administration (DAP) and Corrections Section of the Minustah, will proceed to the commemoration of the International Day of inmates, to the women's prison in Petion-ville. Religious and cultural activities are planned for this special program designed with the participation of women prisoners : rounds of songs, sketches, dances, fashion shows, delivering rewards to inmates and exhibition of works produced by prisoners of Petion-ville and youth from the Rehabilitation Center for Minors in Conflict with the Law (CERMICOL).
