Haiti - News : Some news here and there... 12/12/2013 13:36:26 The spokesman of French Foreign Ministry declared "France welcomes the decision of Michel Martelly, President of the Republic of Haiti, to publish the electoral law recently passed by Parliament. This paves the way for the organization of senatorial and local elections, long overdue. This decision, necessary for the proper functioning of institutions and democratic life, contribute to strengthening of the rule of law." Inauguration of a computer lab at the UPSEJ Sandra Honoré Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, for her first visit to the Southeast, has inaugurated a computer lab at the Public University of East Jacmel (UPSEJ). During her speech she said that this laboratory "will have a positive impact on beneficiaries and will effectively participate in the training of young people to prepare them for employment opportunities and thus contribute to socio-economic development of the city." With 30 computers, a projector, a multi-function printer and a TV, the computer lab should serve as a research tool both for the students and faculty. The equipment of this laboratory has been funded under the Quick-impact projects Minustah up to 25,000 U.S. dollars. The Post office and the promotion of Haiti Tuesday was a meeting between Maryse Noel, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism and Mr. Mortel Icarfens, Director of Cabinet at the Post Offcie of Haiti around a partnership to promote Haiti through the world. Visit of students architects from Paris in Cap-Haitien A student mission from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris (ENSAP) visited Cap-Haitien. The objective of this mission was to conduct research on the country's architecture, including old houses of Cap-Haitien, in the context of the preparation of their Higher Diploma in Architecture. "This is a very beautiful city," said the young architects of the ENSAP. OPC honors five Judges The Office of the Ombudsman (OPC) honored five judges from various departments \ "The choice of the recipients was made on the basis of their performance and their valuable contributions to the advancement of the Haitian justice," declared Mrs. Florence Elie, the Protector of Citizens. The judges honored are : Me Belette Larose, Juvenile judge at the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Port-au-Prince ; Me Bergemane Sylvain, substitute Government Commissioner at TPI of Jérémiee ; Me Max Wilbert José,Dean at TPI of Port-de-Paix ; Me Noë Pierre-Louis Massillon, Dean at TPI of Saint-Marc and Me Paul Gary Angrand, Dean a TPI of Fort-Liberté.
