iciHaiti - Cholera : 22% increase to the first half
According to the information of UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), from January to July 2016, the health authorities have reported a 32% increase in deaths related to cholera and +22 in the number of suspected cases compared to the same period in 2015.

These results are due in particular to the reduction of funds available for the fight against cholera projects, forcing the actors to reduce human resources and mobile rapid response teams active in the field.

As of 30 July, the cholera component of HRP (Humanitarian Response Plan) is funded only to 39% (8 million dollars) on the $ 20.3 million requested for emergency response in 2016. OCHA stresses the urgency of increasing funding to fight against cholera projects in order to reverse the growing trend of the number of cases.

According to experts, the number of cholera cases could reach 50,000 by the end of the year if the trend continues.
